Health Hazards of Hologram Processing Chemicals
Most of the processing chemicals used for hologram processing pose health hazards when inhaled, swallowed or when come in contact with body. If a holographer has a casual attitude towards chemical handling, it can be dangerous, even deadly. While some chemicals like ferric nitrate produce minor skin irritation, others like bromine vapour can lead to mental deterioration upon prolonged exposure. In many cases the damage is irreversible when working with these materials. Rubber gloves, rubber apron, full face shield respirator and ventilation should be used. A good exhaust system should be used so that the air should enter, pass around the worker, and chemicals and then exit out. A fume hood is essential. The hands should be washed well with soap and hot water before leaving the processing laboratory. All work surfaces should be wet wiped frequently. In many cases immediate flushing with water helps.
