Health Hazards of Hologram Processing Chemicals

  • Most of the processing chemicals used for hologram processing pose health hazards when inhaled, swallowed or when come in contact with body. If a holographer has a casual attitude towards chemical handling, it can be dangerous, even deadly.

  • While some chemicals like ferric nitrate produce minor skin irritation, others like bromine vapour can lead to mental deterioration upon prolonged exposure.

  • In many cases the damage is irreversible when working with these materials.

  • Rubber gloves, rubber apron, full face shield respirator and ventilation should be used.

  • A good exhaust system should be used so that the air should enter, pass around the worker, and chemicals and then exit out. A fume hood is essential.

  • The hands should be washed well with soap and hot water before leaving the processing laboratory.

  • All work surfaces should be wet wiped frequently.

  • In many cases immediate flushing with water helps.
